Our long history
Tsunoda Seibee Shoten is a well-established wholesale house that has been working with many companies, factories, craftsmen to create quality products since the end of the Edo period, around 190 years ago. So undoubtedly, these are relationships we trust. We have also built strong relationships with our customers through offering exceptional products. Our long history can be appreciated when you experience our products for yourself.

The materials
Most of our products are wooden.In the wood, you can see the unique knots and grain of each tree. If the wood is not of a certain quality, it tends to warp and often cracks easily. We like to think of these things as the personality of the wood. So instead of trying to erase the individuality of quality wood, we embrace it, and then send beautiful unique pieces out into the world.

角田清兵衛商店の歴史
The History of Tsunoda Seibee Shoten
今から約190年前。江戸の末期、天保元年（1830年）に現在の角田清兵衛商店は紀州漆器の専門店として創業しました。社名となった角田清兵衛は更に遡り、寛永（約1620年）の頃に紀州から江戸に漆器を売り歩いていた商人の名前。2代目清兵衛の頃には江戸に店舗を構えていたと言われています。
長い歴史のある角田清兵衛商店ですが、大正七年に全国的な米騒動が起こります。この時、暴徒と化した群集によって店舗と自宅共に放火されてしまいます。その時貴重な書籍や文献は火災によって失われてしまいます。そのため過去を解き明かす資料は殆ど失ってしまいました。現在の紀州日方（熊野街道沿い）にある店舗は、その火災後に建てられており７代目 角田清兵衛が店舗を運営しています。
In 1830, at the end of the Edo period, the current Tsunoda Seibee Shoten was established as a specialty store of Kishu lacquerware.During the Kan Ei period (around 1620), Tsunoda Seibee, the merchant who the company was named after, sold lacquerware between Kishu and Edo. Then, during the time of Seibee the second, it is said that the first store was built.
In 1918, there was a national rice shortage. During the crisis, an angry mob set fire to the Seibee home and store. So, although we have a long history, all records of it was lost in the fire. Although, we lost the details of our past, we carry on our tradition through our current shop built after the fire and located in present day Kishu Higashi. It is operated by Tsunoda Seibee, seventh generation descendant of the founding Tsunoda Seibee family.
